A Meeting with Media Relations

spj flier

Have you previously worked with a media relations representative? Dealt with University Communications when writing an article for The Lantern? Do you ever wonder what it’s like to be on the other side?

Come to our next meeting ad find out what you could be doing better to communicate with the people who have the answers you need! Gary Lewis from OSU University Communications will be in attendance to explain how he conducts his job to manage the media. This information is invaluable to us as reporters, so be sure to stop by!

All about ethics!

***Update: Due to predicted weather conditions, the Scott Raab event has been postponed. We will keep you updated on the new date/location.***

Stay warm this week with a heated discussion on ethics!

Our featured speaker will be Kevin Smith. He has previously served as president for the

national SPJ board and is currently the chairman of the national Ethics Committee. Smith

is also deputy director of the Kiplinger Program in Public Affairs Journalism here at OSU and has more than 20 years of journalism experience.

So whether or not you’ve taken the Media Law and Ethics course, this is a great opportunity to come and hear more about ethical dilemmas journalists may eventually encounter in their careers. We hope to see you there!

And we’re back!

SPJ is in full swing this week with our first meeting of Spring Semester!

Hear from a panel of sports writers who are also recent Ohio State graduates.

Ben Axelrod

Patrick Maks

Andrew Holleran

Zack Meisel (tentative)

Haven’t been to a meeting yet? No worries; all are welcome!

Crime Beat

Last time’s meeting was a success with six different student organizations coming together and collaborating in one room. Executive boards of each club were able to communicate and foster connections for future events and projects.

This week’s meeting is with Sergeant Rich Weiner of the Columbus Police Division. He serves as the Public Information Officer and deals with journalists and reporters on a daily basis. Come hear about what it’s like to be on the other side of a crime beat!

Sgt. Weiner visited last year and our members found the meeting to be a valuable experience. We hope everyone that attends this Thursday at 6pm. will gain some insights as well.
